I know i just wrote on this like an hour ago, but since i have been talking to her and listening to her story, I continued mine. Here's the second chapter:
Robert fell hard onto his seat, oblivious to everyone around him. He was busy, planning how he could spend as much time with this girl as possible.
I can’t be a stalker, that won’t help at all. I need to figure out her classes, learn her friends, but most importantly, find out about HER. What’s her personality, her favorite games, hobbies, just get to know her…oops that is a stalker. He shrugged, deciding he should keep that to himself.
Oh! As soon as I figure out her classes, I should change a few of mine, but she might be in a few of my classes already, and if I suddenly switch into all of her classes, that’ll be obvious…I think 2 or 3 classes should be good…or four, silently beaming…and then feeling it fade as it dawned on him that he really was a stalker. He pushed it from his mind, continuing his thoughts.
Anyone who was watching him, which was still most of the class, would have seen him in deep concentration, staring at a very interesting spot on the floor. His smooth poker face was occasionally betrayed by slight bursts of emotion. First, he would come up with a great idea and start beaming, very silent and secretly though. A few seconds later, however, he would find a problem and seek an answer in his head.
This kind of behavior was very unlike Robert, and that’s why most people kept nervously glancing his way. Some were whispering about him, he could hear, but his ears weren’t responding.
He had to figure this out.
Alicia was among those nervously glancing his way, her especially. What he didn’t realize was that many of those whispers were directed to her too.
Why her?
She kept coming back to that question, but eventually her resolve moved her to push it out of her mind. If she kept it up, she would never be able to concentrate on her studies.
Mrs. Veera just started calling roll.
“Paul?” Mrs. Veera started.
“Here.”
“Richard?”
“Here.”
“Robert?...Robert!”
He barely woke up from his second trance in that class to hear his name.
“Oh! Uh…here.”
“Elizabeth?”
Mmmm, I hope not. That isn’t as nice.
He got lucky though. Another girl, somewhere behind him, answered.
“Alicia?”
“Here.”
That was her.
“How are you? Ready for another year?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Robert was jolted back to attention. He recognized that voice, even though it was the first time he’d heard it.
He slowly diverted his eyes from his spot on the floor, and stole a glance at her...Alicia…I like it. It suits her well.
She caught him staring again though, and using her eyes, told him ‘what are you doing!?’ Embarrassed at being caught so easily, he returned to his spot on the floor. Mrs. Veera, apparently done with the roll, began her speech.
“Welcome to Symphonic Band! Let’s hope this year will be as fun as last, or even better! For the first few weeks we won’t be playing instruments, but instead be doing worksheets!”
Many grunts and groans were heard from most of the kids. A few though, simply shrugged, not knowing what to expect. Even fewer though, some grinned, happy to do any work.
Robert was among the groaning. Alicia was one of the grinning.
He realized what his best strategy was right there. He’s gonna have to start liking band.
Alicia was disappointed that they weren’t playing instruments yet, She was itching for a melody at the violin. She was content with worksheets though. There was still a chance to play music, if only on paper.
That boy…Robert?...was still floating around her. It was discomforting, and she wished him gone from her mind. It worked, for now.
The rest of the class was quite boring to anyone except Robert. Simply put, he had something to do. He furiously worked on the worksheets, doing his best to get the answers right. He was worried that a few of his friends might mock him for actually a band geek now, but every time he glanced up, he was reassured.
It was worth it.
